nan And He commanded the skies above, And opened the doors of heaven;,Behold, He smote the rock, that waters gushed out, And streams overflowed; Can He give bread also? Or will He provide flesh for His people?',He sent forth upon them the fierceness of His anger, Wrath, and indignation, and trouble, A sending of messengers of evil.,And still again they tried God, And set bounds to the Holy One of Israel.,Yea, they spoke against God; They said 'Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?,They were not estranged from their craving, Their food was yet in their mouths,,Therefore He ended their days as a breath, And their years in terror.,And turned their rivers into blood, So that they could not drink their streams.,He drove out the nations also before them, And allotted them for an inheritance by line, And made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.,He caused the east wind to set forth in heaven; And by His power He brought on the south wind.,So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart; And lead them by the skilfulness of his hands.,They remembered not His hand, Nor the day when He redeemed them from the adversary.,He cleaved the sea, and caused them to pass through; And He made the waters to stand as a heap.,Maschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.,For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;,He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, And their labour unto the locust.,Man did eat the bread of the mighty; He sent them provisions to the full.,So He remembered that they were but flesh, A wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.,That the generation to come might know them, even the children that should be born; Who should arise and tell them to their children,,He gave His people over also unto the sword; And was wroth with His inheritance.,But they beguiled Him with their mouth, And lied unto Him with their tongue.,And He brought them to His holy border, To the mountain, which His right hand had gotten.,And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He hath founded for ever.,He chose David also His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds;,For their heart was not stedfast with Him, Neither were they faithful in His covenant.,And He caused manna to rain upon them for food, And gave them of the corn of heaven.,He brought streams also out of the rock, And caused waters to run down like rivers.,And delivered His strength into captivity, And His glory into the adversary's hand.,When the anger of God went up against them, And slew of the lustieth among them, And smote down the young men of Israel.,He caused flesh also to rain upon them as the dust, And winged fowl as the sand of the seas;,And might not be as their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation; A generation that set not their heart aright, And whose spirit was not stedfast with God.,And smote all the first-born in Egypt, The first-fruits of their strength in the tents of Ham;,He levelled a path for His anger; He spared not their soul from death, But gave their life over to the pestilence;,But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.,Fire devoured their young men; And their virgins had no marriage-song.,Their priests fell by the sword; And their widows made no lamentation. .,By day also He led them with a cloud, And all the night with a light of fire.,And He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent which He had made to dwell among men;,We will not hide from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength, and His wondrous works that He hath done. .,How oft did they rebel against Him in the wilderness, And grieve Him in the desert!,And He let it fall in the midst of their camp, Round about their dwellings.,And they tried God in their heart By asking food for their craving.,The children of Ephraim were as archers handling the bow, That turned back in the day of battle.,When He slew them, then they would inquire after Him, And turn back and seek God earnestly.,And they remembered that God was their Rock, And the Most High God their redeemer.,Yet they tried and provoked God, the Most High, And kept not His testimonies;,And He led them safely, and they feared not; But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.,God heard, and was wroth, And He greatly abhorred Israel;,But chose the tribe of Judah, The mount Zion which He loved.,He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; And frogs, which destroyed them.,Marvellous things did He in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.,That they might put their confidence in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;,Then the Lord awaked as one asleep, Like a mighty man recovering from wine.,He destroyed their vines with hail, And their sycamore-trees with frost.,From following the ewes that give suck He brought him, To be shepherd over Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance.,Therefore the LORD heard, and was wroth; And a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also went up against Israel;,Moreover He abhorred the tent of Joseph, And chose not the tribe of Ephraim;,And they forgot His doings, And His wondrous works that He had shown them.,He gave over their cattle also to the hail, And their flocks to fiery bolts.,He cleaved rocks in the wilderness, And gave them drink abundantly as out of the great deep.,Yet went they on still to sin against Him, To rebel against the Most High in the desert.,And He smote His adversaries backward; He put upon them a perpetual reproach.,I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter dark sayings concerning days of old;,That which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us,,So they did eat, and were well filled; And He gave them that which they craved.,They kept not the covenant of God, And refused to walk in His law;,For all this they sinned still, And believed not in His wondrous works.,But He, being full of compassion, forgiveth iniquity, and destroyeth not; Yea, many a time doth He turn His anger away, And doth not stir up all His wrath.,Because they believed not in God, And trusted not in His salvation.,How He set His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan; .,For they provoked Him with their high places, And moved Him to jealousy with their graven images.,But He made His own people to go forth like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water." 15.23. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah." 15.24. Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;" 11.20. but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you; because that ye have rejected the LORD who is among you, and have troubled Him with weeping, saying: Why, now, came we forth out of Egypt?’" 11.21. And Moses said: ‘The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and yet Thou hast said: I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month!" 11.22. If flocks and herds be slain for them, will they suffice them? or if all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, will they suffice them?’" 11.23. And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? now shalt thou see whether My word shall come to pass unto thee or not.’" 11.24. And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the Tent." 11.25. And the LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders; and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more." 14.3. And wherefore doth the LORD bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey; were it not better for us to return into Egypt?’" 14.8. And it was so, because the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods," 17.8. and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they practised;" 17.9. and the children of Israel did impute things that were not right unto the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;" 17.10. and they set them up pillars and Asherim upon every high hill, and under every leafy tree;" 17.11. and there they offered in all the high places, as did the nations whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD;" 17.12. and they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them: ‘Ye shall not do this thing’;" 17.13. yet the LORD forewarned Israel, and Judah, by the hand of every prophet, and of every seer, saying: ‘Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets’;" 17.14. notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believed not in the LORD their God;" 17.15. and they rejected His statutes, and His covet that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies wherewith He testified against them; and they went after things of nought, and became nought, and after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them that they should not do like them;" 17.16. and they forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal;" 17.17. and they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and gave themselves over to do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him;" 17.18. that the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah only." 17.19. Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they practised." 17.20. And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until He had cast them out of His sight." 17.21. For He rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king; and Jeroboam drew Israel away from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin." 17.22. And the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;" 17.23. until the LORD removed Israel out of His sight, as He spoke by the hand of all His servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria, unto this day."

He should continue to say the following incantation, in the first part of which the demon’s name gradually disappears: iShavrirei berirei rirei yiri ri /i; I thirst for water in whiteearthenware bcups.This is an incantation against those demons.,The Gemara returns to the statement of the mishna that on Passover one must drink no less than four cups of wine: bAndthis ihalakhaapplies bevenif the poor person accepts funds bfrom the charity plate.The Gemara asks: It is bobviousthat this is the case. And exert yourselfto join together bwith a person upon whom the hour smiles,i.e., a successful person., bRav Pappa saidin explanation of this last statement: bDo not buy from him and do not sell to him.If he is the beneficiary of good fortune, he will profit from any business transaction and you will suffer from it. bRather, form a partnership with him. And nowwe have heard bthat Rav Shmuel bar Yitzḥak said: Whatis the meaning of that bwhich is written: “You have blessed the work of his hands”(Job 1:10)? This means that banyone who took a iperutafrom Job would be blessed,even if he received it via a business transaction. This shows that one should engage in business with a person who is blessed, for beven ifhe wishes bto buy from him or to sell to him it is well,i.e., he will share in the good fortune of the other.,The Gemara continues to cite similar advice dispensed by Rabbi Akiva. bRabbi Akiva commanded Rabbi Shimon ben Yoḥaito do bfive matters whenRabbi Akiva bwas imprisoned.Beforehand, Rabbi Shimon bsaid to him: Rabbi, teach me Torah.Rabbi Akiva bsaidto him: bI will not teach you,as it is dangerous to do so at the present time.
