But also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy pleasure for all his labour, is the gift of God." 3.19. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them; as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that man hath no pre-eminence above a beast; for all is vanity." 3.21. Who knoweth the spirit of man whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast whether it goeth downward to the earth?" 7.2. It is better to go to the house of mourning, Than to go to the house of feasting; For that is the end of all men, And the living will lay it to his heart." 12.13. The end of the matter, all having been heard: fear God, and keep His commandments; for this is the whole man."
17. Plato, Gorgias, 510b (5th cent. BCE - 4th cent. BCE)

510b. Call. Do you note, Socrates, how ready I am to praise, when you say a good thing? This seems to me excellently spoken. Soc. Then see if this next statement of mine strikes you as a good one too. It seems to me that the closest possible friendship between man and man is that mentioned by the sages of old time as like to like. Do you not agree? Call. I do. Soc. So where you have a savage, uneducated ruler as despot, if there were some one in the city far better than he, I suppose the despot would be afraid of him
18. Plato, Symposium, 195b (5th cent. BCE - 4th cent. BCE)

195b. clear evidence of this; for he flies and flees from old age—a swift thing obviously, since it gains on us too quickly for our liking. Love hates it by nature, and refuses to come within any distance of it. He is ever consorting with the young, and such also is he: well says the old saw, Like and like together strike. And though in much else I agree with Phaedrus, in this I agree not, that Love by his account is more ancient than Cronos and Iapetus:
19. Septuagint, Ecclesiasticus (Siracides), 3.21, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.7, 13.15, 13.16, 13.17, 13.18, 13.19, 13.20, 13.21, 13.22, 13.23, 13.24, 14.3, 14.5, 14.17, 14.18, 17.4, 18.13, 33.15, 40.8, 41.4, 41.11, 42.15-43.33, 44.18, 45.4, 46.19, 50.17, 51 (2nd cent. BCE - 2nd cent. BCE)

13.1. Whoever touches pitch will be defiled, and whoever associates with a proud man will become like him. 13.1. Do not push forward, lest you be repulsed;and do not remain at a distance, lest you be forgotten.
20. Septuagint, Judith, 2.3 (2nd cent. BCE - 0th cent. CE)

2.3. and it was decided that every one who had not obeyed his command should be destroyed.

1.3. Grace to you and peace from God ourFather and the Lord Jesus Christ.
23. New Testament, Acts, 8 (1st cent. CE - 2nd cent. CE)

24. New Testament, Apocalypse, 3.5, 13.8, 17.8, 20.15, 21.27 (1st cent. CE - 1st cent. CE)

3.5. He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 13.8. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been killed. 17.8. The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth will wonder, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they see that the beast was, and is not, and will pe present. 20.15. If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire. 21.27. There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.
25. New Testament, Galatians, 3 (1st cent. CE - 1st cent. CE)

26. New Testament, Philippians, 4.3 (1st cent. CE - 1st cent. CE)

4.3. Yes, I beg you also, true yoke-fellow, help these women, for they labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
